On Thursday, April 16, students in Mr. Bennett’s, Ms. Reitter’s, and Mr. Mitchell’s science classes took a field trip to West Liberty University. West Liberty held a Sci-Fi program where students could register to pick science-related courses and check out the campus.
Mr. Bennett explained the value of taking education beyond the school walls. “This trip is a wonderful experience for students to get out of the classroom and experience a fun, nice, and educational day on a college campus,” he said in an interview. “They get to meet some of the college science professors at West Liberty and learn something new. They choose two of the many sessions to experience.”
I Interviewed several students about the different courses they took on the field trip and their experiences at the campus.

Sophomore Ahnesti Cohen said that she took the ‘You’re Not My Type’ course. She also shared her experience during her time there. “It was good, my freshman year was way better than this years, but it was a still pretty good this year as well.”
Sophomore Thomas Kalata said he took the courses ‘Pharmacist for a Day’ and ‘Life Under the Ice’. He said, “It was a lot of fun, and I think I’ll go back next year.”
Sophomore Maria Sikora took the courses ‘Mission Impossible’ and ‘Tree Thinking’. “It was a lot of fun,” she said. “I went my freshman year and both years I loved it”.
The Sci-Fi program highlights how hands-on learning can transform a student’s perspective on education. If you are looking for an educational experience that’s also fun, take the opportunity to go on these trips every year!
