On Thursday, April 23rd, Eliza Utt hit 600 strikeouts against East Liverpool Varsity Potters. When she made this great accomplishment, her team went wild and started celebrating. Eliza has been working for this since her freshman season. She was very emotional completing this achievement and kept continuing her season. She said that “It represents a decade of discipline, all of the early morning sessions where I pushed through being tired, but it got me stronger.” Eliza started her pitching journey at the young age of eight years old. Every week or weekend you can find Eliza at her pitching lesson continuously working and learning the mechanics of fast-pitch pitching and continue fine tune her craft into the pitcher she is today. The years of hard work in the gym getting stronger and conditioned or pitching have paid off for Eliza as was named first team all-state last season and came into this season as one of the top pitchers in the state.
The team this year has been playing great with having to play tough teams this year. They have had a lot of younger players that stepped up and filled some major roles. Their biggest goal is getting to the state tournament and winning it all. The team has currently swept their county rival Oak Glen in the regular season.
They are working their way through the regional tournament, being very confident since having the number 1 seed in the bracket. There are currently 3 seniors which are Brynn Artman, Eliza Utt, and Illionna Kirlangitis. These athletes have stepped up in a huge way, which is supportive but being tough in the process and the team needed this since they were very young.
