The Weir High winter sports have been in full swing. All the sports got interviewed about how they prepared for their season, what their main goals are, how everything went with their season, and along with any other information they think is essential for people to know.
The dance team coach, Kristen Palavis has expressed that they prepared to perform at their competition in January and basketball ball games by “disciplined practice, clear communication, and supporting one another.” Which the team’s main goal was, “to be confident and perform to the best of our ability.” Palavis also mentioned how losing a handful of seniors has shifted the dynamic but thankfully the two seniors, Lily Rocknich and Emma ‘lee Magnone have done an excellent job at mentoring the younger dancers and helping her out a ton.
The Weir High Cheerleaders are well into the second half of their season. They cheer on the boys and girls’ basketball team during the weekdays, and on their off time they are currently working on their OVAC routine. Coach Magnone stated,” The cheerleaders have been working hard on their tumbling skills. My goal has been to push the girls to go past their comfort zone in tumbling, and to gain confidence with themselves.”
The girl’s basketball team have worked hard and showed up, after losing a lot of seniors the past season. To prepare for games they always run through plays and watch film to know what to expect from teams. The girl’s main goal is to make it to states and work hard at games throughout the season.
The swim team started off their season with technique training to get the team ready for meets. Mr Bennet, the coach expressed on how they sprung off with the basics and on stroke methods. They worked hard pushing through the training to get to success. The teams’ goals was to get as many people to states as they can, and a lot did end up making it.
The boy’s basketball team has been killing it throughout the season so far. This season they have gained a new coach, Mr. Angle. Angle explained how they had lots of flex days and worked hard on technique to start the boys off and drilled it into them. They had a hard schedule but have been pressing against it to succeed. The coach said the team’s main goal was to win lots of games.
The Weir High bowling team has been working hard and showing up. Long practices multiple times a week. They have worked hard on spares, how to use different equipment, trying to fix our form, and figuring out how to use different bowling balls. They have put in loads of hard work and practice.
