Our Goal
Your donation will help Weir Student Media's student journalists at Weir High School as they develop their scholastic journalism knowledge and skills and produce this news website, daily video announcements, a quarterly print newsmagazine, a yearbook, a senior video and more. Your contribution will help us purchase equipment, print our publications, cover our annual website hosting costs, attend educational field trips and someday build a state-of-the-art newsroom and studio.

About the Contributors
Allison Best, Staff
I am a senior at Weir High School. This is my third year apart of staff, and I am taking on the role as Photo Manager. I am a three-year letterman on the Girls Varsity Tennis team and also decided to join the Girls Varsity Soccer team this year. After high school I would like to pursue cosmology and focus on nails and hair. I would also like to go back to school after trade school to work to get a business degree, in hopes I can one day own my own salon. I am excited to see what this year will bring, and how our program will expand!

I am a junior and a part of the Weir High Varsity Cheer team and after high school, I plan to become licensed in real estate. In my free time I like to listen to music, go shopping and hangout with my friends. Since I was little, I have also done dance classes and competitions. I am looking forward to my last year of high school!

Hailey Hans, WSM Manager
Hello! My name is Hailey Hans. I am a senior at Weir High School, and this is my fourth year on the WSM staff. I’m a member of the girls basketball and track teams. I currently serve as Student Council President, Class of 2026 Treasurer, and WSM Manager. I’m also involved in GAA, FBLA, Pep Club, Key Club, NTHS, NHS, Club 3:16, and Quill and Scroll.
Some things I love are the beach, my cats, Zach Bryan, the color purple, and spending time with my family. I’m also a member of Weirton Alliance Church, where I serve in the children Church ministry.
When I was a freshman, I helped pass the New Voices law in West Virginia. A law that protects student journalists rights and gives them a stronger voice in schools. Since then, I’ve continued to help spread awareness about what the law means and why it matters. I’ve even had the opportunity to present sessions at the JEA convention, which has fueled my passion for advocacy and student journalism. I hope that one day, all students across the country will have their voices heard inside their schools.
Journalism means a lot to me because it gives me a platform to express my opinions and share important information with others. I especially enjoy writing about topics that matter to me and that I believe my audience will care about too.
After high school, I plan to attend West Liberty University and major in Early Childhood Education. The opportunity to serve on staff and be part of this amazing group has meant so much to me. I will always be grateful for everything I’ve learned and for the people I’ve met along the way.
Through my time on staff, I’ve had the chance to travel to Boston, Philadelphia, and Seattle. Journalism will always hold a special place in my heart, and I know it will stay with me forever.
