It’s the start of March and the NCAA March Madness tournament for the men starts Thursday March 19 while the woman’s tournament starts Friday March 20. March Madness is a way to have competition that determines a national champion through thrilling, single elimination format.
March Madness started all the way back in 1939 and is still going on till this day. This is a tournament where you have 64 teams from across the country competing for one thing which is a National Championship. It starts in the first round which is all 64 teams competing against each other for example, a 1 seed facing a 16 seed, and a 2 seed facing a 15 seed. This is because the 1 seed gets rewarded for being number 1 so they get to play the “worst” team which is the 16 seed. Then we go to the second round which it drops down to 32 teams and then goes to the sweet 16. We go to the Elite 8 and then they take a week off getting ready to play the Final Four. We see who wins then they play in the National Championship. I spoke to students at Weir High and how they feel about March Madness as a whole.
Aiden Reed stated that, “It’s a fun thing to do and gives me and my friends something to look forward to.” The bracket dropped Sunday March 16, and everyone is ready to start filling them out. The tournament is a way to connect people and have friendly competition about who you think will make it all the way. Mr Angle said that “he really enjoys the tournament because it’s a great thing to watch and watching the best players and teams competing for the national championship.”
Overall, March Madness is as it says. A bunch of madness, but it is also something people from all places look forward to. From making a bracket, to arguing about who you think will win. The overall winner was the Michigan Wolverines.
