Weir got a new parking lot before the school year 2025-2026. With this new parking lot, also new procedures like the metal guard rail in the middle of the parking lot and, the new way for student drop off. In this article these new procedures will be addressed and how they are affecting the school and its students.
They reached out to find out what these new procedures are from Mr. Blumette, and he never responded to them. But lets hear from some of the students and teachers about how they feel about the new parking lot and about painting the parking spots
Senior Dacodah Roche said “I think the parking lot is nice because of how big it is. It’s very nice for sporting events when multiple of them are going on at the same time,”
The parking lot being a lot bigger gives more space for football games. Also, for when the school has a soccer game the same time as volleyball game. It also gives bigger parking spots for bigger cars like trucks.
History teacher Jason Angle said “It’s nice to see more spaces have been created since we lost a lot of spots with our new facilities. Nice to have no pot wholes,”
Even with the new facility, the parking lot now gives us back the spots used to have. The fresh look for the parking lot gives the school a more polished look, and it also nicer that don’t have anymore pot wholes.
Senior Hannah Dorsey said “I think is awesome that they added more spots. It’s weird how we can’t have our own spots it’s kind of like a free for all. It’s like you get there in the morning and someone else is in the spot that you park in every day and it just holds up the line,”
Also asked people about how they felt about the new procedure of not being able to paint their spots this year. And also asked teachers how they feel about the students not being able to paint their spots. Many people plain out how they want to paint their spots. Every year Weir High seniors got to paint their spots until now.
Science and swim coach Jason Bennett said “I think that’s very disappointing I’m sure there’s a way to do it and have it removed every year all the other area schools do it and it’s very disappointing for the seniors that love to do that,”
Many other schools have found a way to make it work. They have found different solutions to let their students that drive to school be able to leave a stamp on something that they pay for.
Hannah said “I feel like it’s something that you look forward too the whole time leading up to your senior year. I knew so many people who knew what they wanted to do,”
Angle said “I can understand why they would want to paint their spots, but I can also understand why there not allowed. Because its new and kind of takes away from the look. I don’t have anything against it but each year they would have to go back over it,”
Though a solution to this problem could be they have to go back over it we could make some sort of rule. What I mean by this is the person that owns that spot if they paint it, they need to be able to put it back to its original form.
Senior Maddison Lemaster said “I felt disappointed. I was so excited to finally get a spot since I couldn’t get one last year. I have seen all the previous seniors parking spots and I had high hopes. Until I was let down when I found out in my final year of high school I couldn’t even have my own spot like all the previous seniors did,”
For many seniors this year not being able to paint their spots was a disappointment. Many of them couldn’t wait to be seniors and be able to get a spot to put their own stamp on.
Dacodah said “When you’re a freshman you look forward to painting your parking spot your senior year. In my opinion it’s not fair, even Oak Glen got to paint theirs and their parking lot was just redone,”
A few gentile ways of removing paint from the parking spot without damaging the parking lot would be Pressure washer and soap: A pressure washer combined with a degreaser or soap can lift the paint, especially if the paint is old or thin,
Stiff-bristled brush and hot water: Mix a cleaning agent like Dawn dish soap with hot water and apply the solution. Let it soak for a few minutes, then scrub the area with a stiff brush to remove the paint, or you could use a chemical paint stripper with a pressure washer.
Also asked students how they felt about the prices this year. And many of them were happy that asked this question.
Maddison said “I find it unfair that they up the price this year. I understand that it got newly painted and paved, but it’s a decision we did not make. The school provided us with something we should have, decent parking, and they made us pay more for their own decision,”
Just because they gave the students of Weir High a new paved parking lot why does that mean that the students need to pay more. Even though it’s a privilege for the students to be able to drive to school doesn’t mean they need to pay for it too.
Hannah said “I think 35 dollars for a spot that’s not even yours. Just to be able to park at the school that’s ridiculous. I feel like it should have been cheaper than last year because you can’t even paint your spot,”
Many students at Weir High some don’t have jobs to pay for gas let alone a $35 parking pass to get an education. If they decreased the price a little bit since they still don’t even have numbers on them.
Asked students in lower grade how they would feel if couldn’t paint them in the future. Many of whom didn’t even know that we weren’t allowed to paint them just thought that’s students this year didn’t want to.
Dacodah said “I would feel bad for the kids that won’t get to ever experience it. I think it’s a fun thing to look forward to do your senior year because it’s your last year,”
For the freshmen it might not be that big of a deal but what about the students who have watched and helped previous seniors paint their spots.
Grace said “I’ll feel disappointed if we aren’t not allowed to once I’m a senior and I will also feel bad for the other seniors in the future because they have to miss out on this experience that past seniors got to experience,”
For many students the paint of parking spots is a tradition that every school does. Weir high has always been allowed its student body to express themselves by decorating the parking lot. The biggest question on everyone’s minds is will we ever be allowed to paint the sports again or is this a permit thing.
