Weir Serving Up Some Fun!
The Weir High Volleyball team is in full swing, celebrating their success. The development of these girls is ongoing whether you are a Freshman or a Senior.
Dig deep, play hard!
The team ended 7-21-1. Coach Capaldi stated,” We had seven seniors last year that were a vital part of our starting varsity lineup”. The seniors stepped up to fill the void and teach the underclassmen the ways of Weir High Volleyball. When asked about the season, Makenna Potock stated,” The seasons went well; there are some things that we could improve but we are stronger than we were in the beginning”. The offensive and defensive drills that were worked daily created a strong fundamental base to build on.
The junior varsity team record is 6-13. I spoke with Liliana Ascencio, and she stated, “The season is going well; we keep working hard”. I also spoke with Liliana Trupiano. She shared,” We are doing a lot of offense in practice to be better”.
The hard work they put into practice helps with how they play games. Capaldi stated,” The focus in practice is mental toughness”. I spoke to Illionna Kirlangitis and she said” We work on a lot of things like defense and things we struggle with in games”.
Capaldi expresses “All of our girls deserve recognition; they have been working hard to come together as a team and overcome our adversities”. A few notable players are Amalia Kirlangitis and Gabby Sprouse. Gabby is a sophomore, Capaldi stated” she had to fill big shoes for this team and she succeeded”. Amalia has currently passed 1,000 assists. She ended with 1,077 assists.
