Looking for laughs? Weir’s Drama Club has the answer for you: Slapdash! 7 – the club’s seventh annual improv show.

“This event is family friendly, and it will leave you in stitches!” said the show’s director Corey Miller, also an English teacher and the Drama Club adviser.

Slapdash! stars student improvisers competing for points. The cast consists of Tanner Finsley, Matt Jagela, Logan Wagner, Brianna Swain, Jason Lipovich, Leila Schwer, and Saavy Swidowski.

Seniors Tanner Finsley, Matthew Jagela and Brianna Swain along with junior perform in a rehearsal clip posted to social media to promote the show.

“Everyone is working hard making the performance amazing! I enjoy making memory’s especially, with the seniors leaving,” Swidowski said.

Schwer is experiencing the show for the first time. She said, “I’ve been preparing with rehearsals. I feel busy and can’t wait for the night.”

For Lipovich, this is both his first and final show, as he is a senior. He said, “I have been having a blast every rehearsal improvising with my friends. I absolutely can’t wait to perform opening night.”

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the show was cancelled in both 2020 and 2021. It returned in 2022.

In the performance, two teams of improvisers compete in theater games for points. The characters, settings, and plot are made up on the spot. The entire performance is unscripted, and the members of the audience might have the opportunity to participate. Often, the actors rely on funny suggestions from the audience to supply the details.

The term slapdash itself refers to something done in a hasty, careless, or haphazard manner connecting it to improvisation, which means to create and perform spontaneously or without preparation.

“I am both nervous and excited about the show. We’re preparing for it through rehearsals after school and on weekends. I’ve seen past shows, and I’ve been a Whose Line Is It Anyway fan for a few years now, so I know how a lot of the games work. People should come and see the show because it’ll be pretty funny and entertaining,” said Wagner.

A limited number of pre-sale tickets are available for $7. See a cast member or Miller in Room A202 to purchase, visit the school website or scan the QR code. Tickets will be $10 at the door.

Miller said “come join the fun on May 19” for this one-night only performance. Doors open at 6:30 pm with the show to begin at 7.
