The director, Family and Consumer Science teacher Emily Hores, chose the musical and she said, “I chose Legally Blonde because it is well known and would appeal to the students. Weir High has not performed a musical since 2016. I wanted to make sure whatever musical we performed that the students casted would have fun and enjoy the learning process.”

With a full cast who have to learn their roles, they have to rehearse. Hores said, “Though the month of February and March we rehearsed Monday-Thursday for 2 hours. April, we rehearsed Monday-Saturday for 2 hours a day. May we rehearsed Monday-Sunday running the entire show.”
Sophomore Hailee Anderson, who is playing Pilar, said that rehearsals were, “Funny, hard work, and a safe space.”

Also, with rehearsal came with many memories. Freshman Brayley Lash, who is playing Brooke Wyndham, said her favorite parts were, “Just the new experience and watching everything start to come together.”

The cast does not just practice during rehearsal, but outside as well. Senior John Wansack, who is playing Emmett, said, “I usually read through my lines outside of rehearsals about twice a week. I like to leave a lot of the other work to the director. I put a lot of trust in them and wouldn’t want to go against them.”

The cast was also asked how they felt about their role they play. Sophomore Eve Swearingen said, “I like my role. I think it’s a good fit for me.”

Along with the cast there are other things that come into account when putting the musical together. It’s not just the director. Others adult include the music director Erica Sauer, acting coaches Andrew Bellevage and Jamie Truax, and choreography Kirsten Palvis and Emily Hores.
