After the new softball and baseball field, weir is getting a new physical education addition.
“It will include a secondary gymnasium that will give more space for physical education classrooms. It will also have a new weight room facility that will be available for PE classes,” said head principal Ted Arneault.
The changes will bring many benefits with improved equipment and spaces for sports teams and physical education classes.
The current weight room will be used as a wrestling room once the construction is finished.
This will also open space for cheering practice. The court will have bleachers on one side and seven feet of clearance.
More plans include building a new trainer’s room and office.
This facility is being built on the right side of the school connecting to the gym.
The construction has caused an area of parking spaces to be removed from the parking lot.
Given that the softball field has already been put in place of a parking lot, parking options are becoming slim.
There has been conversation about adding parking, but nothing is set in stone for now.
The estimated date the facilities are expected to be mostly done is August 24, 2024.
“I’m really exited about all the facilities. I think that the school board and administration have done an excellent job in terms of giving our students the best possible facilities they can have. We need to understand that there’s nothing wrong with having the best and being the best,” said physical education teacher Michael Granato.
Overall, this project is one of the many beneficial additions for our athletics.
These new facilities will make teams stronger and further success athletically.
Players will be able to grow individually, and teammates will grow closer to each other.
Physical education classes will be able to teach more students how to lift weights and give more hands-on experiences.
