A Night on the Town

To start off this year’s homecoming events, a pep rally finally occured last Friday, September 30th, for the first time since 2019. The queen and king’s courts, dance team, and cheer team performed for the crowd. The kings’ court participated in multiple challenges, such as the water bottle game, the oreo game, the golf ball game, and finally, the tissue game, to decide the King. Malachi Stromile announced Cam Jones as the winner. Jones said, “It felt great to win. It was the beginning of a good weekend, won king, won hoco game, and haf fun at homecoming.”
After school on friday, the court members, the dance and cheer teams, and the freshman through senior classes were in the parade. The freshman class won with the “Miami” float, covered in colorful, beach-themed decorations and accessories.
The football team played Richard Wright, and won, 49-2. At half time, the queens’ court received their roses. Rylie Baker was crowned Queen by last year’s winner, Caroline Pulice, and FBLA president, Rachel Ogbanna. Elli Cowden, who won princess, said, “When I opened my rose, I thought it was white and I didn’t even realize I won princess until my dad said my rose was pink, so I was definitely confused, and then excited. As soon as I realized Baker won Queen, I was so happy for her and gave her a huge hug.” Congrats to both of them, and King Cam!
This year’s Homecoming Dance took place on October 1st. The theme was “A Night on the Town”, chosen by FBLA.
Although this was the club’s first year running Homecoming, they successfully worked together to plan, decorate, and every little detail in between. Ogbanna said, “It was stressful, and I didn’t know a lot of things that went into it, but i learned a lot.”. Thank you to all the FBLA members, and Mrs Dotson, for making this year’s dance one to remember!     Junior, Kevin Freeman, said, “It was pretty fun, everybody I know that went there had a good time.”
Junior, Mean Austin, said that her favorite part of the dance was the cupid shuffle.

Last year, students had some complaints about homecoming, as they had to wear masks, the bleachers were being redone, and the lights were on, but those problems seem to have been solved, and a lot of them had a great time!
