About
Weir Student Media is a student-led and produced journalism staff responsible for creating Weir High School’s media publications. Through print, broadcast and web, WSM students apply journalism knowledge and skills to produce high-quality content that increases understanding and awareness of relevant news and current issues of importance and interest by covering the school’s diverse perspectives with accuracy, fairness, and balance.
Our publications provide an open public forum for and by the students of Weir High School, offering an outlet for student expression. Readers are encouraged to discuss content by commenting on web postings and/or submitting letters to the editor. While WSM staff operates under the guidance of an adviser, all content decisions for WSM publications are made by student staff and its student editorial board. The content of WSM publications represents the views of its student editorial board and staff members. Perspectives expressed in the publications do not represent those of Weir High School or Hancock County Schools faculty, staff or administration. WSM student Editorial Board and responsible student staff members assume complete legal and financial liability for the content of the publication.
WSM publications have not been under prior review or restraint in policy or practice prior to publication or distribution. WSM student journalists are required to promote responsible journalism in adherence to legal and ethical standards and must follow the guidelines established by Senate Bill 121: the Student Journalist Press Freedom Protection Act, passed and signed by Governor Jim Justice in March of 2023.
