Weir High’s Drama department is putting on a production of Charlie Brown Christmas on December 3rd  and 4th  at 7 pm. 

 Tickets will be sold at the door for $10, but it is a limited audience. There will be limited tickets given out to the cast and crew for friends and family for $5. No outside guests will be allowed to be snuck in the back with the cast or crew. Weir High Drama Club Director Corey Miller commented on the play choice and the work his students have been doing.  

“One, I wanted to do something kids would enjoy. Two, since Covid, I wanted to do something cheerful. It’s a combination.” Corey Miller responded when asked why you wanted to do this show.  

The play is based on the cartoon version of Charlie Brown Christmas. It tells the story of how Charlie Brown thinks Christmas is too commercial. He becomes the director of the play that the Peanuts are putting on. Lucy suggests that Charlie gets a shiny aluminum tree, but Charlie comes back with a very meek-looking tree. The peanut gang hated it at first, but they had a change of heart and decorated the small tree. The kids realized that Christmas is not about shiny things. Instead, it is about spending time with the people you love and care about.  

Rehearsals for the play started at the beginning of October and are still ongoing. Rehearsals are held every Wednesday from 3-5 after school and every Saturday from 10-2. The cast has been working very diligently to learn their lines and their places on stage. Props are slowly being added in, so the cast is getting used to that. Crew is now starting to learn their parts whether that’s sound, lights, or stagehands. Everyone is adjusting well to the new additions. 

 There have been some bumps in the road with kids not showing up to rehearsals or being late to rehearsals. But now all the roles were figured out, some kids took on another role, and other parts were dissolved or cut out of the show. The stage manager Abbigail has also been working very hard backstage. They have been keeping track of who’s there, helping clean out storage closets, and filling in for people when they aren’t there. Weir High Drama Club Director Corey Miller commented on the play choice and the work his students have been doing.  

“When asked do adults or teens play these parts better, Miller responded saying “I wouldn’t say anyone plays any part better or worse. It’s all about interpretation.” Next quote will be from the lead, Jason Lipovich who plays Charlie Brown. 

 When asked what it is like being the lead, he responded saying it is nerve racking and scary. Jason was also asked what his favorite scene to do is and he responded saying his favorite scene to do is scene 5, which is the director scene where Charlie is the director of the play the peanuts are putting on. Delaney O’Neill, who plays the lead role as Lucy, remarked on her feelings about being a senior. 

Delaney responded saying, “Bittersweet for sure. I’m happy we’re doing this show, but it sucks that I’m leaving.” “I wanted to be Snoopy, but I also wanted to be Lucy” she answered when asked who did you audition for.
