Cookies Bakin’ and Wheels Rollin’

Future Business Leaders of America, advised by Ms. Dotson, has a unique way of raising money. Instead of the traditional car wash or ringing a bell outside Walmart in the cold, they sell cookies.
Every Monday, Thursday, and Friday a cart goes around the school selling candy, other items, and cookies on Fridays. This was the first time they were able to start selling since March of 2019 when Weir High went remote learning because of Covid-19. Tucker Smith, a junior said, “I look forward to every Friday to buy cookies from the cart”. The cookies sell for one dollar each and will benefit the club FBLA.
The cart goes around the school every Monday, Thursday, and Friday going to class to class selling chips, candy bars, and other treats. The money that they make from selling the items goes to buying more snacks for the next with the goal of making a profit.
One of the things FBLA does with the money they raise from selling cookies is purchase gifts for less fortunate kids. Ms. Dotson the Advisor for FBLA said, “Christmas time we’ll choose an angel or two off the tree and spend two hundred dollars and buy gifts for less fortunate kids.”
The cart was an idea made by students and is run by students. The only help coming from Ms. Dotson is baking the cookies. However, they can only bake a limited number of cookies per week because their orders are not coming in due to the nationwide food shortage.
The cart is called Deals on Wheel which name was changed from the original name used back in 2019 Weir on Wheels. The cart is a hit at Weir in 2019 and 2021 with it or almost selling out every Monday, Thursday, and Fridays and many students look forward to it throughout the week. Student Brian Braham says, “My favorite part about the cart is the candy,” so look forward to it continuing next semester and for years to come.
