In 2021, Key Club lost many members and eventually the advisor, forcing the club to end. After years of silence, History teacher, Ms. Stanley, decided to take the role as advisor, “I decided to bring back Key Club at Weir because I wanted to become more involved in school and the community. I love community service and being able to do it with students. My main goal for Key Club is to keep expanding and becoming the best group that we can be. I would love to see our students get involved with more community service and I am excited for what ideas they bring to the table for the rest of this year and next year.”
When you join, you are committing yourself to attending meetings, taking part in activities and fundraisers, and most importantly, caring for your community. I spoke to Landon Donaldson who is in line to become president of the club next year, to see why he wanted to be a part of Key Club,” I decided to run for Vice President because I love what Key club stands for: helping others and building attributes such as character and leadership. In the following years I hope to accomplish having better club participation and overall being a better club.”
So far, they have made cards for geriatric centers, volunteered at the elementary school, and finally hosted a march of dimes walk where they gave 100% profit back to the foundation. President, and senior, Sarah Stewart stated, “Cards may seem insignificant, but no knows the simple impact a card could have on someone.”

In March, some members traveled to Virginia, for an event called DCONN. They attended multiple workshops, elected board candidates, and got to speak with other key clubs to further better Weir Highs organization. During their stay, they also traveled to the White House and other monuments in Washington, D.C. Member, Kaydence Cain, shared her favorite part of the trip, “I liked meeting new people and attending conferences.”
Key Club is a student-led organization, giving students the opportunity to build leadership and character skills. To have more say in what is going on in your club, run for an officer position. The different options are president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, editor, or webmaster and signups/elections are held the year before.
This is the 100th year of key club, while weir high hasn’t taken part in all, they plan to keep it alive this time. Signups are held at the beginning of first semester with a yearly member fee. Take the time to highly consider, decide if you are willing enough to be a part of Key Club and fulfill all responsibilities you pledge too.
