Super Bowl 59, played by the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, was played on February 9, 2025, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. The Eagles defeated the Chiefs 40-22, to claim their second Super bowl title in franchise history.
For the Eagles, Jalen Hurts, the MVP, was their leading scorer with 2 touchdowns. It was a dominant performance by the Eagles defense. The rookie cornerback, Cooper DeJean, made his first interception and scored his first career touchdown during the Super Bowl, which just so happened to be his 22nd birthday. For DeJean, his dream has become a reality.
Saquon Barkley was named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year from breaking the record of the most rushing yards in NFL history between the regular season and playoffs. Barkley also celebrated his 28th birthday on Sunday. This was their second Super Bowl win in NFL history.
The Eagles crushed the Chiefs on Sunday at the Superdome, denying the Chiefs what would had been a historic “three-peat.”
Quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, struggled throughout the night, throwing two interceptions, that was returned for a touchdown, and losing a fumble on a strip-sack. Mahomes had a stand-out performance, which solidifies his reputations as one of the top quarterbacks in the league. Key players like Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce also made significant contributions, making it a memorable game.
The halftime show featured Kendrick Lamar as the headliner, with appearances of SZA, Sameul L. Jackson, Serena Williams, and Mustard. The performance was seen by a combined 133.5 million viewers across broadcast television and streaming platforms.
Lamar performed 11 songs, two of which featured SZA. She performed “Luther” and “All the Stars”. Lamar’s show was a cultural event that highlighted important political messages regarding the unfair treatment for racial inequality. There were many underlined meanings to everything he was doing. The performance ended with the words “GAME OVER”, spelled out in the crowd.
