This year Student council held its annual food drive where they collected more than 500 items for the better of our community. These items will be donated to the Community Bread Basket where they will distribute the items to family’s in need. These items included everything from canned goods and non-perishable items.
“One can means something to somebody,” said Tara Shepherd , director of the Community Bread Basket.
Student council took the lead and promoted the food drive to our school by naming it the “Pie In the Eye Contest.” “We prepared by creating a flyer that explained how this event would work and we listed the items needed.” said Gina Rieter, science teacher and student council adviser.
The pie in eye contest was a school wide contest. Students could donate items to the food drive and in return earn a “pie piece,” which could be given to a teacher or staff member to fill their pie. The employee with the most pies would be ducted taped to the wall and pied in the face by a student that donated and was chosen at random.
On November 26, the pie in the eye assembly took place. This year there were two winners: Jason Bennet, science teacher, and Jason Angle, History teacher. Student Council randomly selected students from those who donated to get to pie their teacher in the eye. The two students both donated to the food drive. The students chosen to pie the teachers were Sophomores Isabella Webber and Sadie Coston.
“I wanted to help give back to the community,” said Webber.
When these students received their “pie piece” they both chose to put their piece on Angle’s pie. “I Chose Angle because he gives out too much homework,” stated Coston
“The Experience was the crazy part about it because our student that was selected to get me, threw a fastball from about 8 feet away and hit me on the top of the head and now I’ve been messing with her ever since and I’ve been trying to teach her how to properly pie someone in the face.” said Angle.
