Homecoming 2024 is here and there is a lot students should know to participate throughout the week with the festivities planned by FBLA and Pep Club.
Homecoming court was selected by an electronic vote on Sept. 18. The winners are shown in the photo below.
This year’s theme days include Movie star Monday (dress as your favorite celebrity), Check Tuesday (wear your favorite jersey or even your own), Weir’s your pink? Wednesday (dress up like the mean girl’s movie), Adam Sandler Thursday (Wear your baggy clothes and backwards hats), and lastly Rider Pride Friday (Dress in your weir apparel).
Tuesday, Oct. 8 is the last day to purchase dance tickets. The fee is $25.
Thursday morning at 7:25, the homecoming court, band and cheerleaders will practice on the field for the ceremony. An email with names was sent out to teachers.
Pep Club will host the Homecoming pep rally on Friday, October 11 during fourth block at 1 pm.
Then, it will be time to head downtown to Main Street for the parade, where all classes and some clubs will have starry night decorated floats along with the queen candidates and their cars. Floats must be lined up at 4:15 pm and the parade will start at 5:15.
The parade will lead right into the football game that night, where the team will face East Fairmont, and the queen ceremony will take place at halftime.
Lastly, the homecoming dance that will take place Saturday, October 12 brought to you by FBLA. Newbrough photos will begin at 6 p.m. with the dance from 7-10.
The dedicated homecoming committee is working hard to make this huge event happen. They are bringing many new things to the table this year including new decorations, more snacks, more photo opportunities, and lastly a new local deejay. FBLA is in hopes of having more people at the dance this year.
Kayla Mazon stated, “Not everyone’s homecoming is going on at the same time this year so we are expecting more people to come to this one.”
Overall, FBLA and Pep club are pushing for the best homecoming yet while enjoying this special time that brings the whole school and community together to celebrate.
