An Enchanted Evening
May 12, 2023
By the end of prom the seniors did not want to leave their last high school dance. They were emotional in all ways.
The day of prom students who were attending the dance left school and got ready to go to the dance, students attended promenade and walked across the gym with their date or by themselves to show family and friends their dress or suit as they walk across the gym to get their pictures taken.
Promenade was decorated with light spring colors; the gym was decorated with a balloon arch and balloon stands at each picture spot.
Emma Fierro helped to plan prom, she was asked how she came up with the set up.
Fierro said, “ My classmates and i chose the enchanted forest theme so i started looking around for ideas to make it an elegant and enchanting night. The most important part was the lighting so we chose a DJ that could give us those effects to light up the room. From there, I wanted each table to have a different look so after hours of shopping we were able to find different centerpieces to match the theme. My vision was to have the room look like a wooded forest so we added a lot of greenery and flowers to make it magical. Overall the venue really helped pull the theme together with all of the wood walls and ceilings.”
After promenade all students went out to the charter buses and got on the buses that they were assigned to with their dates. The students had a fun and memorable bus ride to Oglebay. The prom theme was enchanted forest, and the venue was decorated with greenery, wood, and glitter.
For a photo backdrop, there was a flower wall with the colors pink, light pink, and white. There was also a 360 camera so students can get a cool video of them posing with their date or friends.
Lots of the students really liked dinner at prom, which included green beans, salad, mac & cheese and chicken. Desserts for prom were made by Hanna Reitter, so many of the students loved all of the different kinds of desserts there were. It included chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered Oreos, cake pops, cookies and so many more.
After pictures and dinner were over it was time to start e dance. DJ Jonathan Mihellis started off interacting with the seniors after, the dance started.
Seniors who attended prom were asked about how they felt about prom.
Senior Elli Cowden said “Prom was very fun and I think it was an overall great experience for the senior class. Everything we have been planning all year turned out great and everyone had a great time.
Senior Madison McDonald replied, “I had a really good time at prom. The decorations, music, and food were great. It was a very enjoyable night with everyone.”
Throughout the night students danced with their friends or date. Later, glow sticks were passed out, and students started a glow stick “fight” by throwing glowsticks across the room.
After the glow stick “fight” it was time to announce prom king and queen, the prom king and queen were randomly picked.
Arissa Waugh and Rj Guthrie were picked to be prom queen and king.
Waugh said, “I felt very very shocked, like I wasn’t sure if they called the right name. After reality set in, I was super excited and very grateful to have been picked.”
Guthrie said, “It was pretty cool to win prom king.”
Before the dance was over, it was time for one last song, the class of 2023’s song: “Time of Our Lives” by Pitbull featuring Ne-Yo. The seniors were sad that this was the last song because they did not want the night to end.
After the last song, Mihellis told the seniors congratulations.
After prom was over students returned to their assigned buses and rode back to the school, where they arrived around 12 am.
