High school can be filled with adventure, that is why the 2022 – 2023 yearbook theme is “Our Adventure book” from the movie Up. Weir Student Media adviser Morgan Bricker said that there were many options that the class considered. Through a staff vote, they narrowed it down to five, and then to three, and then the class went with the one that was easier to execute.

A couple of Bricker’s students came up with the idea of the yearbook.

Senior Jordyn Ferguson said in her interview “I actually wanted it the most because it was personally my idea. I got it from OMSA convention we went to later that school year.” WSM staff members attend the Ohio Scholastic Media Association Fall Workshop at Kent State University in October 2022, where Ferguson and Addison Mikula attended a session about yearbook development.

Mikula was with Ferguson at the OSMA convention. She said, “Jordyn came up with the idea herself, but I like it because I love the movie Up.”

While all the staff members discussed ideas for the yearbook’s theme and design, senior Kendall Drobish, who has served on yearbook staff for three years is creating the template for this year’s yearbook. Drobish said, “Well I just took some inspiration from a few of Walsworth templates and some of the yearbook class like what they wanted and then just kind of put it all together.”

Junior staff member and current WSM editor-in-chief Angela Paull said when surveyed “I like it! I like the templates and I feel like it’s very different but very creative,” about how the yearbook is coming so far. This is showing that the theme is different from the previous theme they had.

Almost all the staff members suggested buying a yearbook. Paull also said, “I would recommend buying a yearbook so when you are in college you can look back at the memories you had.”

Senior Alex Orris, a first semester staff member, said he is buying one “Because it holds important memories and photo of you during your high school years.”

When asked how a student felt about a theme, sophomore Kylie Dean said, “I feel like this theme will be extremely cute and am excited to see the design.” Senior Ryan Weber said, “I think it’s very creative and inspirational. I think everyone will be a big fan of this yearbook. Everyone is putting their heart, sweat, and tears into it.” Junior Olivia Baker said, “I like this idea because I think it is creative and fun.” This means that a lot of students are in favor of the theme.

When surveyed, 81.3% of the students said they did not know what the current theme was. 79.2% of the students are planning on buying a yearbook this year. When asked why some students said “Yes,” they often cited that it was their senior year or that they like to see the memories of the year. But some students also said “No,” because it’s too expensive or they would rather buy something else. When surveyed, 100% of former staff said that they voted for the current theme. Additionally, 100% recommended buying a yearbook and 100% are planning on buying one themselves.
