English & American Sign Language
I teach American Sign Language (Levels 1-4), Creative Writing (Levels 1-2), Mass Communications, Academic Games (Levels 1-4), English 12, and AP English Literature.
ASL teaches how to communicate with the deaf and is a foreign language credit. Passing each previous level is the prerequisite for the next.
Creative Writing focuses on short stories and poetry writing as well as producing the Looking Glass, Weir High’s literary magazine. Passing each previous level is the prerequisite for the next.
Mass Communications is the third level of Creative Writing. Students need to have successfully completed Creative Writing 1 & 2 as a prerequisite.
Academic Games teaches students how to play seven games and competes locally with Western PA teams to qualify to play at nationals. The games are Propaganda, Equations, Presidents, Onsets, Theme, Current Events, and LinguiSHTIK. Students who sign up for the class are committing to competing on the local level. Passing each previous level is the prerequisite for the next.
AP English Literature focuses on world literature and preparing students to take the AP examination. Students should have a 3.0 in previous English courses as a prerequisite.
